ORGANISED BY THE CONSTRUCTION HISTORY SOCIETY

Second International Congress on Construction History, Cambridge University 29th March - 2nd April 2006

There are probably more historians of technology alive now than in all previous ages and there is an interesting and pluralistic flow of ideas taking place. Those interested in construction history often only address audiences in particular countries and the debate remains national in character. Also, there is no "authoritative" and synoptic textbook that provides a definitive study of what constitutes construction history. The result is a community of scholars disunited in their aims and feeling that they do not belong to a single discipline.

The aim of the International Congress on Construction History at Cambridge University is to break down the boundaries between people interested in construction history across national and cultural boundaries. Allowing participants fresh opportunities for exchanging ideas with colleagues from across the world will not only enrich and stimulate the work of individual scholars, it will also disseminate scholarship and debate internationally.
